honeysuckle sticks, my favourite ink pen because
of its springiness. My hand ‘wandered’,
watching the lovely elliptical shapes created by
the branches. Watercolour wash creates the tones
which had to be very accurately observed |

| I like Matisse’s interiors and
this was based on his use of pattern and shapes. The
adjacent entrance hall shows warm bright tones, with
balanced tones and shapes in the rest of the painting
encouraging the eye to explore all over.
