Wisteria Tunnel

Wisteria Tunnel

This was done with pens made from honeysuckle sticks, my favourite ink pen because of its springiness. My hand ‘wandered’, watching the lovely elliptical shapes created by the branches. Watercolour wash creates the tones which had to be very accurately observed

Junior Prayers

Junior Prayers

I watched the groups of children lining up to say pre-dinner prayers. The only child here doing it properly is the angelic little boy at the front! This is a pencil sketch based on original charcoal observations, kept without colour not to detract from the childrens’ characters

Headmaster's Study

I like Matisse’s interiors and this was based on his use of pattern and shapes. The adjacent entrance hall shows warm bright tones, with balanced tones and shapes in the rest of the painting encouraging the eye to explore all over.
