Rosemary Humphries Suffolk Artist - Gallery
My work covers a range of subjects but always something that makes me buzz. I look at shapes and colour ideas, individual to every place and theme. |

Snape Saltings
I had scrambled from Snape Maltings, Suffolk, along the north bank of the River Alde. The path took me out on marshes which bring you close to Iken shore. This was the view back to Snape. Very little colour used to emphasise the tones for this remote wild place. |

Dunstanburgh Castle, Northumberland
Using colour to show the evening light catching this magic place. Mixed tones on the foreground rocks work with the bright colour used at John of Gaunt’s now ruined stronghold on this wild Northumberland coast. |

Glen Affric, Scotland
An island reached by scrambling across wet rocks. My focus is the tree roots, where I have concentrated on the shapes and strong colours. But the use of pale tones, large rock shapes and empty space is vital to the overall composition. Glen Affric is a magic, unspoilt place to visit – nature as it should be. |

About To Get Wet
Done from photos I took of my husband and friend at Southwold, Suffolk. They got very wet a moment later! The colours in the sea fascinate me. |

Staverton Thicks
A small piece of very ancient woodland near Butley, Woodbridge, Suffolk. Simplifying shapes and use of very restricted colour captures how our woodland must have looked like in wide areas. The foreground trees were silver birches but I used warm shades, to make the viewer look through to the timelessness beyond. |

Wharfedale Winter Sun
A little exercise in abstraction and colour. When the sun shines on the grass in Spring in the Dales, the colour is screamingly bright. Careful choice and use of limited colour shows this. |
